A Hallowe'en Letter

ALL HALLOW’S EVE

‘We Want the Same Thing’ – Belinda Carlisle

I have received a letter from Maggie, in which, after thanking me for my last letter, she tells me the following: she’d like to know when my birthday is; she’s sad that I haven’t found any theatre work yet, but she adds that she knows I will one day be a famous actor/writer/director and when I am she’s going to come and paint my scenery for me.  She says she can’t imagine me as a postman.  Her own fear of doing such a job would be the bike.  Then, speaking of mail, she tells me that when my letter arrived, she was jumping about all over the place showing everyone the photo I sent her and telling them wonderful things about me.  ‘I’ve been so happy all morning and it’s all because of you’.

At the moment, she’s working in an Art Centre, with framing, shop and exhibition and gallery spaces.  She runs the exhibition and gallery spaces.  She supposes it’s quite good, with lots of responsibilities, but she’s not sure that it’s really what she wants to do.  She says it’s part of a scheme and has no real prospects, and the lack of money gets her down.  Added to this, she doesn’t really get on with her boss or the manager (‘a right stuck up little cow’ who went to a convent school).  It’s also boring, she says, because paintings aren’t really something people go out and buy every day.  She’d like to finish her training in Norwich at a design studio.  She says she wrote to Anglia TV to enquire about their graphics department, but to do that she’d need a degree.  She’s now kicking herself, wishing she’d finished her course at NORCAT.

She then says: ‘I’m glad to hear that you haven’t run off with anyone’ and tells me she just got out of a heavy relationship herself.  Things were fine, but he got over-jealous and possessive which made her feel trapped.  Lots of rows would follow him telling her not speak to people and then he’s apologise and she’d forgive him.  Eventually she caused a great scene and left him, but she has the support of lots of good friends.

She says she’s still quite ‘gothy’ but much more comfortable as herself and no longer competitive on that scene and enjoys being accepted for who she is now.

She says she misses me so very much and begs me PLEASE (about three times) to keep in touch because she loves hearing from me and has loved seeing my face.  My letters brighten her days: ‘nothing can knock me when I’ve had a letter from Ritcherd’.  ‘I think, I hope, that through our letters we can build our friendship’.  ‘It’s great to have a friend like you; someone who listens, cares, and above all else, advises without preaching or judging.  I miss you.’  She thanks me for being her friend and for understanding her.

She asks if I ever see the ‘gruesome four’: Kat, Willock, Leighton and Venus.  She asks if they’re still pretentious and says she’s glad I’m no longer going out with Kat.  She says she might pop into WH SMITH in Norwich one day just to see Leighton at work there.

She signs off with lots of love and four kisses.

(Me right now...)

Eight Years From Now: 30/10/1998

Eight Years Into the Future...

'Bachelorette' - Bjork

So, I’ve been living above the crepe restaurant where I am deputy manager for about a month.  It was a good move.  I have a large - nay, MASSIVE - studio apartment dating from the Tudor period with a vast brick fireplace and all the food I want, no rent and plenty of time to write and, wonderfully, access to a man who’ll sell me cannabis.  I live in the centre of the city and my window looks out onto the busy street of Holywell Hill and on to the Cathedral whose bells come to me as a great comfort.

During my time here, I’ve also popped back to WSM a couple of times (I’ll be going again soon for the school bonfire night); I’ve been to Johnny’s where I had flu (this, in King’s Lynn) but also much fun; dropped the connection with Janie; spoken to Lili over the phone and been continually in love with her (she told me that Tigger had ripped her neck open but is better now; she also told me that she might move to Boston or Washington State and stay in the US for at least 10 years; god, I love her); I’ve been into DOCTOR WHO a fair bit and realise I now own pretty much every TV story you can get hold of; I’ve stayed at Flash’s; been drinking in Soho with both Flash and Johnny; I had Flash over on Monday night, stoned and in love – really good mates; done loads of writing on my novel; and I’ve been listening to lots of music and generally feeling good.  But also scared; that this stability might end.  Betty and Freddie almost split up too, which was shit.  Whatever next, eh?

'Barry' - GusGus

Kiss me, my love.  Come and kiss away the pain.

Revolver Horror Special

LATE:

‘This Town Ain’t Big Enough For Both of Us’ – Sparks

When will this week’s ‘company’ meeting be?

Oh, DW: ‘TALONS’ pt. 2 is skill.

THE MOUSES ARE BACK!  WE SIGHTED ONE TODAY – BLOODY MOUSE BASTARDS!  BASTARDS FROM HELL!

RECENTLY, I bought REVOLVER #5, CRISIS #52 and the REVOLVER HORROR SPECIAL.  Most unimpressive-looking, I thought and put off reading them.  But now I’ve read them, mind you, I’m quite pleased with them.  The trouble with these 2000AD spin-offs these days is that they always promise so much and yet never really manage to cough up the goods.  But Shaky Kane is groovy.

I’m having a haircut on Wednesday – yippee!

Berwin Groomstool: Live!

‘Make It Mine’ – The Shamen

I came home today from Amy’s and Johnny popped over for a little while – nice to see him.

TONITE’S TV WAS:

DW: ‘THE CURSE OF FENRIC’ pts. 1 + 2 at Johnny’s insistence.
DW: ‘THE TALONS OF WENG-CHIANG’ pt. 1 – which I absolutely loved.
And the new BBC serial, THE GREEN MAN with Albert Finney – and it’s bloody fantastic.

OVER THE COMING WEEK, I’M PLANNING TO:
Go to work, obviously.
Do very little at home.
Write some letters, I hope.
Have a ‘company’ meeting with Julian and Johnny.
Get a haircut with Astra Trellis.
Visit Raquel in Winchester?

Flash just rang.  He just did some stand-up at the Oxford university Laughter Loft and performed as our Situation character ‘Berwin Groomstool’.  It went down incredibly well.

Great Sex (and Terrance Dicks)

‘What Kind of Fool?’ – All About Eve

Today I went to Amy Neat’s and we went into King’s Lynn, where I bumped into Danny Chegwin, another old face!

I also saw Mary-Jane Ferguson.  Fergie is now seeing a guy called Warren, as far as I could make out anyway.  We spoke for about two minutes and, honestly, she is still absolutely gorgeous.  I expect I’m going to get really hung up about her one day.  Just as I told her I would earlier this year.  I keep meaning to start a correspondence with her, but it’s the same with all the other people I want to write to, one just never gets around to it.  I end up writing all the pointless little letters and the job applications telling myself that the really important people will wait, will hold.  But will they?

Seeing Fergie brought my day down a bit; I really do think she is beautiful.

‘Velouria’ – Pixies

Anyway, Amy and I went back to her place and Sally Watson came over.  We had long chats, popped over to Sally’s and then came back.  Amy and I then indulged in all and any sex we could that avoided disrupting her period.  We had a brilliant time and I had great fun with her tits and her buttocks.  We even got a bit ‘rough’ which was fun and she asked me to come all over her face.  It was some great sex and great fun.

I also bought two cheap DW books today: ‘Face of Evil’ and ‘The Invisible Enemy’.

The Past Catching Up

‘In Between Days’ – The Cure

I haven’t had work at all this week.

Later:

‘Yaaah!’ – D-Shake

It was MONTY PYTHON tonight.

What else have I done?

Oh yes!  I bought fifteen singles for three quid (all ex-chart as well).

I also watched episode one of DOCTOR WHO: ‘THE MIND ROBBER’ and thoroughly enjoyed it.

I also did some research on EQUITY at the Library for this week’s meeting.

I also bumped into Tina Montgomery – is my past catching up with me, or what?

(Mood Version)

My No.1: ‘Doctor Who (Mood Version)’ by Mark Ayres

I can’t stop looking at all my PanoptiCon photos.

I have written all my letters, except the ones to Raquel and Fergie.

Later:

‘In Every Dream Home A Heartache’ – Roxy Music

I rang Astra Trellis tonite and she’s going to cut my hair next week.  I’m going to re-coordinate my image slightly.  I’m such a jyppo at the moment.

AND I WANT A NEW JACKET – SUEDE!

Ringing Raquel

11:30pm

‘Loaded’ – Primal Scream

Today, Johnny came over here and we rang Raquel (Flash’s kind-of ex-girlfriend), a) so I could speak to her as a friend, and, b) to investigate what’s going on at her uni and to find out if she knows Abby for Johnny.  It turns out that Raquel doesn’t know Abby, but anyway, Johnny and I are going to stay at Raquel’s place the weekend after next and I’m really looking forward to it.  Raquel was great on the phone and even rang me back later on.

I have watched Doctor Who: ‘BATTLEFIELD’ part one and ‘REMEMBRANCE OF THE DALEKS’ part one.  Ecstasy.

The Post Office have given all their jobs away.  This is not pleasing.

‘Panopticon Eight – Doctor Who (Version)’ – Mark Ayres

I’ve got my convention photos back and they’re brilliant.  Pictures of: Daleks, Wendy Padbury, Colin Howard, Davros, Frank Windsor, James Ellis, Nick Courtney, pink Cyberwoman, Vanessa, Mary Tamm, The Destroyer, Fifi, Haemovores, Kane, the Ancient Haemovore, Sophie Aldred, John Nathan-Turner, Flash, Marc Platt, Mark Ayres, John Helm, Charlie Happenstance, Nick Briggs, Carl Forgione, Sylvester McCoy, K9, Alister Pearson, Jon Pertwee, Andrew Beech, and me!  Plus many more shots of the hotel and me ‘n’ Flash and the cathedral and Coventry and so on!

I’m changing my image slightly.
I NEED A GOOD JOB – WITH LOTS OF MONEY!  My current pay is shite.
MUST WRITE TO:

Dinner with Astra

‘Doctor Who (Terror Version)’ – Dominic Glynn

Flash turns 19 today.  Many Happy Returns.

Well, I went to Johnny’s today and we went to Dereham to see Julian and hold a meeting about our futures.  Thus, our masterplan to gain thespianic employment was unveiled.  Aim?  To create a small theatre company, EQUITY cards by January, followed by a full tour of our original FRANKENSTEIN script.

I had dinner with Astra Trellis today and she’s brilliant.
